"Not the Ticket" at Bedford Train Station

Published on Saturday, 17 January 2009

Queues at Bedford train station are about to get longer following cuts to staffing hours. Worse, if you try the ticket machines you may find your ticket choice unlisted.
Despite increased fares and long queues in the mornings, a cut of seventeen hours per week for staffing the ticket office have been announced.

Last Monday, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Fuller, who was travelling to Manchester saw a long queue for the ticket agents, so opted for the ticket machine, but could not find the fare he had just checked for online.
“The machine listed fares for the wrong route and for far more expensive options than should have been available. When I boarded the train, the conductor rolled his eyes and said he was always having this problem with passengers from Bedford. I am concerned that the proposed cuts to staffing hours in Bedford will not only mean longer queues but also to more people being charged more than they should be by the ticket machines.”
